On June 6th-8th we're putting on an exhibit about play, natural play, and the Chastain Park playground project. It will be at the Chastain Arts Center's City Gallery from 9am - 5pm each day, and on Thursday evening (6/7/12) from 6PM until 8PM.
The good news is that it is a big, beautiful space...HUGE! The super fantastic news is that our friends at Landscape Structures, Inc. are sponsoring the exhibit.
The bad news is that we have two weeks to put this together. But, no problem. This is the kind of thing the Hanover West kids did for our entire childhoods: let's put on Peter Pan; let's put on a carnival! It'll be great!!! Good thing this is my idea of fun.
But, here's the big question: What do people need to know about play? What are the simple basics of play? How do you distill all that is going on - the studies, the design advancements, the buzz - into a message so simple that everybody gets it? And what is "It"? "It" is that play is vitally important for your kids health and development; and, play is not just organized sports, play is "free play", too. And, what does "free play" mean....
Recently someone told me that I skipped over the basics about why play is good for our kids. She said, "You assume that everybody knows this stuff, but they don't. Even though you've heard it a million times, most people haven't. They need to know!" ..... Oh!
Ten days to go......

There just aren't enough words to thank the folks at Landscape Structures for all they are doing to make creative play happen for the children of Atlanta.
LSI took the new playground at Woodruff Park off of the drawing board and made it come alive. They made the PlayChastain Exploratorium happen for the families and children of north Atlanta.
Landscape Structures has gone above and beyond and their efforts are greatly appreciated.
Congratulations to LSI, ATOP's Play Champions of the Year 2012!
