I just watched Pelada, a documentary about a young couple who traveled the world looking for pick up soccer games. From Iran to Japan to Kenya to Argentina they found the same thing: people love to play soccer/football/futbol, not for glory and fame, but simply for the joy of it.…

When I think treehouses, I don't necessarily think of the kind we used to build when I was a kid.

That is in large part because of the brilliant artistry of Roderick Romero.…

It was a sweltering day in Manhattan. The only thing that might have been better than jumping around in cool water was sitting in the shade with a crispy apple and a good book.…

Tonight was the party before the party in Burling Slip. Kids were out to give the amazing new Imagination Playground a test run before the big ribbon cutting with Mayor Bloomberg tomorrow. It was a VERY successful sneak peak. Atlanta, are you thinking what I'm thinking?
This is quite Dr. Suessian, if I do say so myself.…

This morning at the Imagination Playground at Burling Slip....5:25AM. They must have turned off the live camera to keep people like me in suspense. Two and a half days to go! The Thank You party is Monday at 5 and the grand opening is Tuesday at noon. I'll have to remember to take a picture of the completed playground standing in this spot. We leave for New York Monday morning. I'm so excited about this trip to see David…

The grand opening is next Tuesday, July 27th. My goodness, it's going to be busy for the next week.
Way back in 2007, I visited the offices of the David Rockwell Group in New York City to find out about an interesting playground project I had heard about somewhere.…

This is a picture of the world headquarters of the Atlanta Taskforce on Play (ATOP), and that big red rubber ball? My new desk chair! The idea came from my doctor who said it would help me build up my core muscles during all of those hours spent at work, but I've got to say, it's doing great things for my head, too! I'm so glad the only color they had was red. It just wouldn't be the same if it was gray. Color and design, really do make a…

So, I've been goofing off websurfing today and this picture got me thinking of treehouses:

(The Metropolitan Museum of Art)
This is an installation called The Big Bambu that is being built on the roof of the…

It was a scorcher all up and down the East Coast today, so what would be better than hitting the pool? Well, actually getting in the pool would have done it, but taking a tour of the famed Gwinnett Parks sights was pretty good too.

This is the shallow end of an pool at Rhodes Jordan Park. It's so shallow kids don't have to have learned how to swim…

I've never seen anyone wheelchair skateboarding before. These pictures are of Scott Horton, the son of my friend Joan, and they are mind boggling. I'll have to do some research. I don't know anything about wheelchair skateboarding, where you can do it, what you need in a skatepark to do it... but I'm going to find out! This guy is incredible!…

Check out Devan. This has got to feel like flying.
It amazes me that there are no skate parks in Atlanta, but that is about to change thanks to the Atlanta BeltLine. Later this year, an amazing new skatepark will open in the Old Fourth Ward. I don't think I'll ever find myself on a skateboard, but I can't wait to watch the kids in this amazing park.…
